A payment plugin for online stores is an extension or additional software that is integrated into the online store to enable the processing of payments. The plugin is the interface between the online store and the various payment providers, such as credit card companies or online payment services.

A payment plugin enables merchants to offer a wide range of payment methods. Potential customers thus have a wide selection of payment methods that they can use to pay securely and conveniently online. The integration of a payment plugin is crucial to ensure a smooth and secure payment process for customers.

PAYONE's store integrations enable merchants to easily install, configure and adapt our payment plugin within common store systems. This allows them to offer their customers a secure and seamless payment process in the store system of their choice - quickly and with minimal effort.

The frontend is a web-based, TLS-secured payment form for online transactions that supports multiple payment methods and languages. Customers are redirected to this form to process payments. The form can be flexibly integrated into the checkout process as an intermediate page, pop-up or iFrame. PAYONE's hosted iFrame solution ensures PCI DSS compliance for the secure processing of card payments.

Additionally, the frontend enables a one-click checkout for returning customers and allows for custom design adjustments using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The Client API is a specialised technology that allows you to process purchases directly on your website without redirecting customers to external pages. PAYONE offers a unique solution called "Hosted Multi iFrame". Buyers enter their payment details into the input fields of the iFrame and this information is transmitted directly to PAYONE for processing, without ever touching your website. For you, PAYONE's solution enhances security and ensures compliance with industry standards such as the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard).

The Server API is a platform-independent API interface within the PAYONE platform. This interface allows merchants to initiate payment transactions, trigger and modify processes and data within the PAYONE platform, enabling full integration into the contractual partner’s system landscape.

The server API enables, among other things:

• Collection of payments

• Execution of credit notes

• Updating buyer and payment data

• Control of the dunning process

• Retrieval of invoice and credit note documents

• Retrieval of buyer data

Payment types
The server API supports all payment methods available on the PAYONE platform.

Functionality and implementation
The Server API is integrated into the merchant's system via HTTPS POST requests, transmitting relevant information as key/value pairs. An overview of the supported functions can be found here. The functionality varies depending on the use case and the individual implementation by the merchant.

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
When credit card payments are processed via the server API, the credit card data is collected, processed and transmitted to the PAYONE platform by the merchant’s system. This type of connection therefore requires certification in accordance with the PCI DSS by the merchant.

The PAYONE platform offers both a test mode and a live mode for transactions. In test mode, transactions are simulated without transmitting real data to external parties, while in live mode, actual transactions are processed. Both modes use the same underlying technology. A merchant account is created initially in test mode and later activated for live transactions. All settings from the test mode are retained in the live mode. Additionally, merchants have the option to set up a separate payment portal or merchant account exclusively for testing. Before going live and when introducing new payment methods, testing is always recommended.
