PAYONE ENABLES TAP TO PAY ON IPHONE IN GERMANY
German businesses of all sizes can now accept contactless payments with an iPhone and the PAYONE Tap on Mobile app. No additional hardware required.
Frankfurt am Main, 03.09.2024
PAYONE, a joint venture between Worldline, a global market leader in payment services, and the DSV Group, competence center payment of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, introduces a new payment solution for merchants in Germany - Tap to Pay on iPhone via the PAYONE Tap on Mobile App.
Tap to Pay on iPhone enables merchants to accept all types of contactless payments, including contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and other digital wallets, using just an iPhone and the PAYONE Tap on Mobile app - without any additional hardware or payment terminals.
With Tap to Pay on iPhone, the merchant at the checkout can simply ask the customer to hold their contactless debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch or other digital wallet near the merchant's iPhone and the payment is made securely using NFC technology.
Apple's Tap to Pay technology uses the iPhone's built-in features to protect business and customer data. When processing a payment, Apple does not store any card numbers on the device or on Apple servers.
By simply downloading the PAYONE Tap on Mobile app from the App Store and registering, merchants can set up their iPhone to accept contactless payments without the need for additional hardware. They can also access their transaction history and manage their other Tap on iPhone-enabled devices directly in the app.
Simple and secure processing of contactless payments
Tap to Pay on iPhone also supports PIN entry, which includes accessibility options. Both low value payments and higher amounts above the contactless limit of EUR 50 can be processed quickly and securely with PIN entry. If desired, an invoice or receipt can be sent to the customer by e-mail or by scanning the QR code.
Can be used independently or as a practical addition to a primary payment solution
The new product can be used independently or - especially for medium-sized and large retail companies - as a supplement to an existing terminal at the point of sale (POS): Advice and sales staff can use the iPhone to initiate the payment process directly on the store floor: This eliminates the need for customers to go to the checkout and wait in line, providing a personalized and seamless shopping experience. Other areas of application include restaurants, delivery services, cab services and market businesses.
Ottmar Bloching, CEO PAYONE, is convinced: "The demand for mobile payments is growing continuously. This trend is also confirmed by our current consumer study, in which 32% of respondents demand payment via smartphone from merchants as a payment method in brick-and-mortar stores. With Tap to Pay on iPhone and our PAYONE Tap on Mobile app, we are meeting this expectation on both the retailer and consumer side. The new payment solution offers small and micro merchants, as well as major customers, the opportunity to increase sales and customer loyalty by allowing them to focus entirely on serving their customers. These in turn benefit from both the more intensive personal advice and the elimination of queues at the traditional checkout zones, which previously often led to the planned purchase being abandoned. In addition, handling payments via the app is intuitive, simple and completely flexible in terms of location."
Tap to Pay on iPhone via the PAYONE Tap on Mobile app is now available to all PAYONE customers throughout Germany.
